Close the lid.
Keep working.
Owl Mode keeps your MacBook running with the lid shut, then puts it to sleep the moment the job is done.
Your Mac falls asleep the second you close it.
So you leave the lid open on the train, or you wait. Owl Mode gives you a third option.
One click, then close the lid.
- 1Click the owl in your menu barKeep Awake (or press ⌃⌥⌘O anywhere), or pick a timer from 30 minutes to 8 hours.
- 2Close the lid and goYour Mac keeps working in your bag, on the train, on the couch.
- 3It sleeps by itselfTimer done, switch off, or your AI agent finished? Your Mac goes to sleep on the spot.
It watches the work, not the clock.
Owl Mode stays awake while Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Gemini CLI work, and lets go about a minute after they stop.
No timer to guess, no switch to forget. Close the lid on a long task and your Mac sleeps right after the last step. Owl Mode never stores or sends your code, prompts or output: it only notes “working” and “done”.
- 22:14Claude starts a long task
- 22:15Lid closed, Mac stays awake
- 23:02Claude is done
- 23:03Mac goes to sleep
Your owl reports back.
Close the lid and walk away. When the work finishes, an iMessage lands on your phone, just before your Mac goes to sleep.
Open the lid and Owl Mode tells you what happened: how long it stayed up, what finished and how much battery it used.
Built so your Mac never cooks in your bag.
On battery, Owl Mode steps back at 20% and lets your Mac sleep. Pick 10 to 50%, or only stay awake when plugged in.
If macOS says your Mac is running hot, Owl Mode lets it sleep. Plugged in or not.
Work done and the lid already closed? Your Mac goes to sleep right away instead of idling.
If Owl Mode ever crashes or is force-quit, normal sleep is back within 2 minutes.
You approve it once with your password. After that Owl Mode can switch lid-closed sleep on and off. That's all it can touch.
For jobs that take longer than your coffee.
Final Cut, Premiere, Blender, Lightroom. Start the export, close the lid, catch your train.
Big files, game installs, Time Machine. They finish while the Mac rides in your bag.
Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI switch Owl Mode on and off by themselves. Long tasks keep going between meetings.
- Keep Awake switch, shortcut ⌃⌥⌘O and timers up to 8 hours
- Automatic mode for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI
- A text when it's done, and a night log in the morning
- Heat guard, battery floor, safety net
- Up to 3 of your Macs, Apple Silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later
Set up in two minutes.
Owl Mode isn't sold through the App Store, so macOS asks you to confirm it the first time. Here is exactly what you'll see.
Open the download (1 MB) and drag Owl Mode into your Applications folder.
Open Owl Mode. macOS says it can't verify it: click Done, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
The welcome window asks for your password one time. Then look for the owl in your menu bar.
